| A: | The answer to this question is different for every client. The first area that needs to be examined in order to answer this question is your own contractual and quality control standard requirements. If a frequency is not established by contract or quality standard then a statistical review of your usage level and environmental condition is recommended. Obviously the heavier the use and/or the harshness of the environment contribute to the reduction of gage service life. Another area that needs to be considered is overall cost of calibration as it applies to the cost of rework from the use of an inaccurate gage or customer impact from product returns. As a general rule QCC recommends that all precision measuring equipment be calibrated at a minimum annually if not sooner as a good quality control practice. |
